在我記事時，父親讓我選一個漂亮的洋娃娃。我一眼抓住了一個不穿衣服的男娃。父親說，“哎.....要一個穿裙子的，漂亮的娃娃。” 我就是抱著他不肯放。沒想到小豆（我的男娃）成了我形影不離的伙伴。
有一天爸爸說，我們來玩一個”上台作報告“的游戲。我不懂。爸拿了一張小木凳說， 這就是講台，現在歡迎喜蘭小朋友給大家講故事。爸拼命地拍手說，現在你就要上台。
我： 好！
爸： 不對， 站起來， 往前走，還要帶點笑容。
我：去哪？
爸：站在小凳子的后面，這叫講台。好！眼睛看著大家。
我：還有誰啊？
爸：爸身后坐著好多好多的人，在看你。
我：這麼多人啊，太好了.....
我高興得手舞足蹈的。
爸：現在你給大家講一個你的故事。
我：故事？什麼是故事？沒有。我隻要一個小豆。
爸：那就給大家講講你的小豆。
爸又鼓掌.... 說呀... 大家都聽著呢。
我：好好，我想說好多話， 但是說什麼呢？等等，我去叫小豆....
爸：眼睛看著大家....
我：我的名字叫喜蘭，他是我的小豆。我餓的時候，我就想小豆也一定餓了，我樂了，他也樂，反正我見到他就樂。
爸：又拼命地拍手....
我在台上開心的，抱著小豆亂舞....
這就是我。父親注意了對我自幼的經常的培訓，從此我愛上了舞台，愛上了演講。在國內還得過用英語演講獎，還為杭州電視台做了西湖介紹的英文配音。在剛開放時，嚴重缺少國際談判人才時，我被轻工部在全国范围内招聘时錄取，從此走上了國際貿易的道路。
When I was a child, my father asked me to choose a doll for me. I saw a lot of dolls there and took a naked boy (named Little Bean). Father, "Oh no, choose something nicer with skirt." I didn't let Little Bean go and he was my shadow.
One day, father said,  "Let's play a "speaker's desk" play."
I: Speaker's desk?
Father showed me a little stool and said, " This is a speaker's desk. Now stand up and go to the speaker's desk"
I: Where should I go?
Father: Please stand behind the speaker's desk. Go please happily and with a little smile on your face. Yes, right! Now ladies and gentlemen, we have here a little girl, Xi Lan, she will tell us her story.
Father applauded.
Father: Please begin, Xi Lan.
I: Only you here, dad?
Father: No, behind me there are a lot,  a lot of people, they are waiting for you.
I: Wow... so many, that's wonderful!
Father applauded again.
I: What is the story, dad? I have only my Little Bean. When I'm hungry....
Father: Wait! Please speak up  and look at the audience.
I: My name is Xi Lan and he is Little Bean. When I'm hungry, I think he must be also hungry. When I'm happy, he is also happy. Anyhow I'm happy, every time when I see him.
Father applauded loudly again and I talked so much rubbish without end and danced with Little Bean wildly.
That was me, since then I have loved the stage. Always more audience is better, then I can play, and I can make my speech.
