My comment: Trump' s Populism
The checks and balances in the Republican party didn't work, and perhaps the 18th century voting system should be reformed. And the US school system produced too many citizens who are unable understand texts and to compare information. They are the victims of Trump's and Bennon's rhetoric. The blue and white collar workers who voted for Trump didn't even notice that he never cared for them, and will never really do so. Any effective opposition against Trump must politically re-educate the electorate, must focus upon the interests of the hard working people and debunk the new nationalism, everything that is not based on facts, and right wing propaganda machines like Breitbart News, Putin's rhetoric or Xi Jinping's rhetoric. They are the enemies of enlightenment and the enemies of everybody who dares to make use of his own mind, the enemies of the free press, and of democracy. Chris Patten, the last British governor of Honkong said: " The idea of "the West" is one of America's finest achievements (though many other countries have also contributed). It would be a true disaster for the world if America, in an act of self-destructive decadence, tossed this noble, practical, and inspiring creation into the dustbin of history."(Project Syndicate, on Nov 13, 2016.)
